About Gerry Maddison, Life of humankind and in fact, of all living creatures on earth is finite. That is the grand design of the almighty for all. We can delay the end of life that might otherwise overtake us by medical or holistic interventions. But an end is inevitable.
It’s hard to think of Gerry no longer being with us. But his spirit is still present. It permeates the Temple. In a time past, his service to the lodge and the temple board held both together for a time until our fortunes were turned around some 25 or so years ago. Then, a new generation of members came to our door with new ideas and the knowledge and energy to put them to use. Gerry was there to advise and would always lend a hand if needed.
Gerry was a man who had a light of life that burned ferociously bright. All of us who knew him saw that light and felt the warmth of its glow. In his life he had many pursuits, some that he may have shared with us and some not so. His presence among us as a Mason is what we all best knew of him, of what he gave to Humber Lodge and to the Order. His life as a young boy, a young man, a student, a working man, a railroad worker, a cook, a man courting young ladies, a business man, a husband, a father, a community activist etc. is for others to speak on.
Anyone having been in his presence, went away knowing who Gerry Maddison was. He had that effect on people. But with all human kind that have life, an end comes to pass and the almighty called him to that other place. Now he can be complete again because he’s with Elsie.
Our brother is no longer with us but his spirit remains.
